A big deal has been reported between the country’s telecom company Airtel and US e-commerce company Amazon. According to news agency Reuters, Airtel and Amazon are in initial talks for a possible investment. It is being told in the report that negotiations are going on between Amazon and Airtel for a possible investment and equity stake. However, this conversation is at a very early stage. At the same time, information about how much Amazon wants to invest, is not available. But the report says that this investment can be two billion dollars.
About this deal, a Bharti Airtel spokesperson said, “We normally work with all digital and OTT players. We negotiate to bring their products, materials and services to broaden our customer base. Apart from this, we have nothing to say. “On the other hand, an Amazon India spokesperson said that the company does not react to speculation about what it will do now or in the future.
Amazon’s stake in Airtel is being discussed at a time when Indian telecom companies are on the radar of global investors and technology giants. In the past few weeks, Reliance Industries’ digital platform Jio has raised billions of dollars from Facebook, KKR, Silver Lake Partners, Vista Equity Partners and General Atlantic. A source in the industry said that global technology companies want to gain more market share in the Indian market, so more news may come. There were reports last week that Alphabet Inc was eyeing Google’s five percent stake in Vodafone Idea. However, the telecom company has clarified that it regularly assesses opportunities. No such proposal has come before the board of the company.
