FedEx joins DHL, with temporary termination of Chinese imports to India

In the midst of simmering tensions between India and China, influential freight carrier FedEx Corp has announced that it would temporarily suspend goods from China. The decision was made by FedEx Corp, as it faced backlogs beyond its control, leading to congestion at facilities. “We’ll keep monitoring the situation and resume our usual operations as circumstances require”.

The decision by FedEx to temporarily halt Chinese import shipments into India came after a similar measure was taken by German logistics firm DHL on Wednesday. Customs officials at Chennai’s main port, which handles various cargoes including vehicles, fertilizers and petroleum products, kept shipments originating from China for additional inspections.

A DHL representative confirmed to Reuters that the recent pause in the clearance of cargo to India triggered a temporary suspension of pick-ups from mainland China , Hong Kong and Macau by the shipment company’s DHL Express India service. DHL hasn’t commented on the existence of overdue consignments.

Reuters stated last week that goods were caught in the border disputes, including products from US firms Apple, Cisco and Dell, as Indian ports held up imports from China.
