US President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday to cut off the entire relationship with China in response to the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus that has killed nearly 300,000 people worldwide, including over 80,000 in America. “There are many things we could do. We could cut off the whole relationship,” Trump told Fox Business News in an interview.
In recent weeks, there has been rising pressure on the president to take action against China as lawmakers and opinion-makers fear the Covid-19 is spreading from Wuhan across the world because of Chinese inaction. Trump said in answer to a request that he did not want to talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping right now. “I have a very nice friendship but I’m just — I don’t want to talk to him right now,” he said, adding that he’s very frustrated with China.
Trump and State Secretary Mike Pompeo reported that the deadly virus originated from the Wuhan Virology Institute in central Chinese city Wuhan, where the outbreak was first identified last December. China denied cover-up over the severity of its coronavirus outbreak and accused the US of seeking to deflect public attention by insinuating that the virus originated from a Wuhan virology lab.
