Donald Trump’s strong approval ratings for Faucis: ‘Nobody likes me’

President Donald Trump grumbled on Tuesday about the medical specialist Anthony Fauci ‘s high approval ratings and joked that “nobody likes me” as he tries to boost his standing with the electorate to cope with the coronavirus pandemic. Fauci, an infectious disease specialist on Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force, is one of the most respected individuals in government, and many Americans listen closely to his recommendations on how to protect themselves from infection.

Fauci’s issue was discussed at a news conference where Trump expressed his support for malaria medication hydroxychloroquine as a virus prevention tool. Trump said he thought that the medication was effective “in the early stages.” Most public health experts agree that hydroxychloroquine should not be used to treat coronavirus because it could lead to heart attacks and other issues. Last month, the US Food and Drug Administration revoked its authorisation for the use of hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of Covid-19 after multiple reports challenged its effectiveness.

Trump has repeatedly said that Fauci had told him that he did not have to close his trip to China, where the epidemic began, earlier this year, when the severity of the pandemic was not yet apparent, and that he did not follow the advice. White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows publicly chided Trump Trade Adviser Peter Navarro for writing an opinion article criticizing Fauci.
