SpaceX Wants To Catch Super Heavy Booster With Launch Tower Arm, Relaunch Vehicle Within Hours Of Return

Elon Musk has been advocating for technology for a reusable rocket system. The SpaceX CEO recently said that the company will try to catch Super Heavy Booster. SpaceX aims to accomplish this with the launch of the tower arm. The ambitious move will give a new lease of life to reusable rockets. Musk said that SpaceX will aim to catch the Super Heavy Booster with the grid fins taking the entire load. At present, the Falcon 9 boosters return to Earth after launching satellites. It lands on its own built-in legs. If Musk gets success, the booster will not require legs in the future. It will be held by the tower arm in the air. SpaceX said that the future target is not to have landing legs.

According to Musk, the aim is to create a reusable launch vehicle. Falcon 9 is a reusable vehicle but SpaceX aims to develop a vehicle that is more reusable than Falcon 9. According to SpaceX, Falcon 9 can be reused many times. He said that Falcon 9 legs will certainly work when SpaceX will attempt to catch the booster. He said that the move will allow SpaceX to recycle the Super Heavy Booster faster. He said that it can be launched immediately. Musk added that the booster can be relaunched within an hour of its return. Notably, the Super Heavy Booster is currently in the development phase.

SpaceX is likely to start testing catching the Super Heavy Booster in the next months. Notably, Starship prototypes are under development and being tested at the company’s Texas launch site. According to SpaceX, the Super Heavy booster will launch the Starship system. It is a fully-reusable and super heavy-lift launch vehicle. SpaceX is developing the vehicle for the last eight years. Besides, the booster will also be used for deeper space missions including a journey to Mars. According to Musk’s claim, the first booster is just a few months away. The Super Heavy Booster is approximately 240 feet tall. It has 28 Raptor engines.
